Who We Are?
Aspirations and Dreams
Unlike other places in the coastal region, the people of Puthenthope value education more than anything. They also give high regard to teachers for a long time. In those days, there was a group of people who were educated at Palayam Kotta St. Xavier’s College (not Thumba College). They migrated to Malaya in the 1930s.
Our forefathers had fought the good fight against the wind, the waves, and the caste/religion-based institutions for a simple living. People were oppressed and exploited for many centuries by the system.
Becoming a government employee and living with little salary and hypocrisy was not what people wanted. Since they wanted a wealthy life beyond the borders, they migrated to many countries.
During the 1930s, many of them migrated to Colombo and then to Malay. In the 1960s a few of them migrated to Canada and Australia and in the 1970s, to the UK, the US, and other European countries. Since the early 1970s, many of them have been working in the Middle East.
Damn with the race traitors, thugs, liars, and fraudsters who smile only to exploit and rob our freedom and liberty. Today, we control our destiny.
We honor our ancestors. For a simple living, they fought every day against the rough wind and high waves in the sea, and the irrational institutions based on caste and religion on the land. It was a long history, denied opportunities, and the harsh reality that was buried in the golden sand.
The one great lesson they taught us to succeed in life is:
When the wind is against you, how to sail.
Education-based Value
For imparting education, our ancestors built primary schools and a high school on the property of Puthenthope.
How couldn’t those pioneers such as Leyon Lopez (Preacher, contractor, and unselfish social worker), Antony Pereira (Tahasildar and Station Master), Aplone Pereira (Teacher), J. P. Pereira (Teacher), William Pereira (Teacher -Singapore), Benjamin Pereira (Teacher- Singapore), Margret Gomez (Teacher), Celine Lopez (Headmistress), and Virgin D’cruz (Headmistress) inspire any generation?
Unlike earlier, today every opportunity to learn is available at the ‘fingertip’ from anywhere at any time. Only the sky is the limit. With an undergraduate degree from India or with a fake degree, do not think that you are a master. Unless you test yourself at higher places with high standards, you won’t be able to properly measure your worth.
